Our extensive algorithm only requires the information that your lab needs on a test requisition form. Oh, it definitely is. We’ve done our homework to ensure that the documentation fulfills all the necessary requirements to ensure compliance. Physicians have the ability to review and edit the document to ensure it reflects their determination of medical necessity. The process is similar to a doctor's review of a nurse practitioner’s chart note: making any edits or additions, then signing off on it.

Cellarian’s software is agnostic towards payers, labs, hospitals or doctors. We built this to support appropriate clinical drug testing and if a test for a specific patient is not medically-necessary, our software will not support it.

What we found was that until about two years ago, labs were still making such large margins that writing off denied claims didn’t really matter. However, a lot has changed recently. The pressure that payers have been putting on labs through decreasing reimbursement and increasing denials finally created enough pain to spark demand, especially now that Medicare is targeting labs that are billing drug testing codes G0480-G0483 for audits. So, denials are skyrocketing and a number of lab operators have faced serious consequences. Additionally, everyone in the lab billing space knows that doctors will never write the level of medical necessity documentation that payers require to support reimbursement. So, everyone just assumed the only solution was to write off the claim.
We didn’t think that way and leveraged our clinical and technical expertise to create a truly revolutionary solution to a very expensive problem. We knew that “cut and paste” or “cloning” a template doesn’t work. Our founder was part of the ASAM Drug Testing Expert Panel and our algorithm was designed from the ground up with compliance, security and privacy in mind.
